China Congratulating Tonga to be the 150th WTO Member

Tonga was approved to be the 150th WTO member on the 6th Session of the WTO Ministerial Conference in Hong Kong on December 15. Yi Xiaozhun, Vice Minister of Commerce of China extended congratulations to Tonga government.

Vice Minister Yi Xiaozhu said that China supported Tonga to enter into the WTO, and entry of Tonga was helpful to integrate into the world economic system, and would strengthen representative of the WTO. China and Tonga had long term friendship and friendly economic and trade relations, we hoped that China-Tonga bilateral economic and trade relations would be further strengthened after Tonga entered the WTO. China also expected to keep close cooperation with Tonga under the WTO.

Vice Minister Yi Xiaozhu extended warm welcome for entry into the WTO of Saudi Arabia and hoped other applicants to finish negotiation soon, so that the WTO would be more representative. He said that China had finished negotiation for bilateral market access with Russia, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Ukraine. And the least developed appliers should accelerate process according to related rules of General Counsel of the WTO.

Vice Minister Yi Xiaozhu said that China entered the WTO on the Doha Ministerial Conference 4 years ago and Doha Development Agenda started successfully right on that conference. Someone said that China brought good luck to the WTO, and we hoped Tonga could also make it on this important conference and enable us to make a breakthrough in the difficult negotiation.
