Minister Chen Held Talks with WTO Director-General Pascal Lammy on Doha Round Negotiations

Minister of Commerce Chen Deming met with visiting WTO Director-General Pascal Lammy in Beijing on July 21, and the two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on the Doha Round Negotiations.

According to Chen Deming, China’s position on firmly supporting the Doha Round Talks will not change. WTO members should seize the “window of opportunity” of the Doha Round Talks in 2011, lock the achievements, and take the texts as the foundation to seek breakthroughs so as to move the talks forward. And China will continue to support Lammy in advancing the Doha Round Talks.

Lammy expressed that the Doha Round Negotiations started nine years ago, and it will hurt WTO credibility if failed to reach an agreement by 2011. He hoped WTO members to work together for substantive progress of the talks, and to senda positive signal on the G-20 Seoul Summit, so as to provide more political support for the Doha Round Talks.

The two sides also exchanged views on WTO's Aid for Trade Agenda. Vice Minister Yi Xiaozhun attended the meeting.
