Yi Xiaozhun Met with Ambassador Giampiero Massolo, G8 Summit Coordinator of Italy

Yi Xiaozhun, Vice Minister of Commerce, met with Ambassador Giampiero Massolo on April 16.
Ambassador Massolo is the Coordinator of Italian host to this G8 Summit. Mr. Yi Xiaozhun and Ambassador Massolo exchanged views on promotion of Doha Round of WTO negotiation, and the G8 Summit.

Mr. Yi Xiaozhun said that in the current financial crisis, the convening of G8 Summit and the dialogue by leaders of G8 Group and developing countries could be an opportunity for joining efforts by all countries in addressing the financial crisis and reviving the world economy. China hopes that the G8 Summit can send out a clear signal of opposing trade protectionism. China, as a world trade giant, wishes an early and successful completion of Doha Round of WTO negotiations. Yi also touched upon the importance of development, and hoped the G8 Group could play a positive role in development.

Ambassador Massolo made a briefing on G8 Summit preparations, saying that trade and development is points of interest in the envisaged G8 Summit.
