Yi Xiaozhun：China Greatly Benefited from Participating in Regional Economic Cooperation

"Conducting regional economic cooperation is China’s main way of participating in economic globalization. We should actively take part in regional economic organizations to prevent China’s trade from being squeezed out by regional trade blocks." said Mr. Yi Xiaozhun, Assistant Minister of Commerce, at the first China Commercial Development Forum held on November 27.

At the same Forum, Vice Minister of Commerce Zhang Zhigang pointed out that accelerated regional economic integration had became an inevitable choice for countries to cope with economic globalization. It was an important trend in the current world economic field. Mr. Zhang said China’s economic and trade development had benefited from more opportunities brought about by regional economic cooperation in which China was an active part. Against this background, China Foreign Trade Report (Autumn 2004) predicts that China’s total foreign trade volume will break through US$1 trillion to reach US$1.1 trillion, up by 29%, making China the third largest trading nation in the world.

Mr. Yi Xiaozhun said that various regional trade arrangements had not only played an active role in promoting China's economic development, but also generated development opportunities for Chinese enterprises to "Go Global". Besides the benefits also went to the ordinary Chinese people. Meanwhile, regional trade arrangement brought about win-win outcome to all countries involved. Mr. Yi Xiaozhun emphasized that the Chinese government would continue to push forward the existing regional trade arrangements and ongoing negotiations on FTA and was looking forward to the joint efforts of all parties to promote regional trade liberalization, trade and investment facilitation and global economic integration.
